Conversations with Myself

This is the part where I tell you to let your preconceived notions go to hell. Because you are twenty-three and you are in London and you are in love and you are a healthy-bodied woman with lots of prospects, and you are clever, my god you are smart, I mean you’re not genius, but hell, you have got it going on. You’ve failed in small degrees, but you’ve accomplished more than most. You’re your own worst critic, you can nitpick, but your critique is grossly biased—you are capable of anything, I promise you are. You can write, but you should write more. More courageously, more creatively, more productively. Don’t take yourself too seriously, but also, start taking yourself seriously. You know balance; it’s in your bones. Let yourself be irrational, let yourself be emotional. You are crazy. You’ve known this for years. Quit trying to prove otherwise. You’ve got something to contribute, I promise you do. And no matter what happens, no matter how the cards are dealt, no matter how little control you really have, remember that you are supposed to be precisely where you are right now. It’s that simple, I swear.

Also, get that goddamn haircut already. Au naturale isn’t as attractive as you think.
